CINEMA is a transformative workforce development initiative that will train and provide new opportunities to 18-24-year-olds who are disconnected from work and/or education to obtain entry-level jobs in Information Communications Technology (ICT) fields (e,g, digital media production, film/TV production).
The CINEMA Project will be led by the Crim Center in affiliation with Georgia State’s Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII) and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), along with the Atlanta Film Society (AFS). The project is sponsored by a grant from JP Morgan and Co.
The Atlanta Film Society, the Creative Media Industries Institute and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning are affiliates with the Crim Center on the CINEMA Project.
This project is designed for 18-24-year-olds who are disconnected from work and/or education, passionate about starting a career in the media technology industry and committed to learning new skills. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and a Georgia driver’s license or state-issued ID.
CINEMA will prepare participants with hands-on training provided by CMII faculty and staff on animation and character design for virtual reality (VR), game design, and interactive media. In addition to these courses, the Crim Center will provide classes in global learning and life skills development. This course will prepare participants with the knowledge to successfully obtain and maintain a job leading to a career. Participants are also supported by an online learning environment and focused experiences such as internships, team projects, film industry seminars, field trips, production boot camps and meet-ups that add value and exposure to ICT, media, entertainment and related fields. In each area, the aim is to better connect students to technology and media arts careers.
All classes are held at the Creative Media Industries Institute (25 Park Place N.E., Atlanta).
Yes. CINEMA participants will receive a monthly stipend for every day attended through the 22-week program.
Participants will be divided into small groups and be assigned to a nonprofit organization that will assign them to an actual ICT/digital media project. Participants will have a chance to experience a real-life client and work on a four-week project that can be featured on the client’s site or included in participants’ portfolios.
Four-week internship opportunities will be provided by a variety of media, entertainment and production companies throughout the metro-Atlanta area and are guided by CINEMA partners as well as the CINEMA Industry and Education Advisory Council.
